Children's Shopping Spree - Kohls

Event Date:
08/11/12 6:00am - 12:00pm

Give a child the confidence to start the school year off right!

Each year across the nation children start or return to school, many of these children do so with no school supplies, old clothes and a sense of not fitting in.

Active 20-30's national project is a back to school shopping event to help underprivileged children start the school year off with the tools necessary for success. Some Active 20-30 Clubs provide a shopping event around the holidays, ensuring these children have a present to open on Christmas and proper clothing for the season. Sebastopol #63, along with North Bay #656 and Petaluma #30 will be taking approximately 50 children back to school shopping at Kohls in Petaluma.

Each child will be accompanied by an Active 20-30 volunteer who will have a gift card with $150 pre-loaded. The money is spent on jeans, t-shirts, sweatshirts, shoes, underwear, socks, a winter jacket, belts, hats, and everything else you could possibly think of to outfit a child for the start of school. With the generous discounts offered by Kohls we are able to provide these children with an ample amount of quality clothing that will last them throughout the school year. After shopping is done each child will have an opportunity to get their hair cut by a local, volunteer hair stylist as well as a brand new back pack full of supplies including crayons, colored markers, paper, pencils, erasers, rulers, tape, binders, and more! Once the children are outfitted and ready to begin the school year they will enjoy a delicious breakfast donated by Sally Tomatoes with their family and new Active 20-30 friends!

You are invited to support this event by making a donation or sponsoring a spree .The children will be from West County, Rohnert Park & Petaluma. Each club will be in contact with local organizations who can provide us with the children who need the most help. If you would like to nominate a child in West County please send an e-mail to Samantha with a brief history of the child(ren) and their circumstances. All submissions will be reviewed by our board of directors and we will accommodate as many as possible. It is not necessary to provide the child(s) or family name(s) but please include the age, grade level and a way to contact you. The deadline for submissions is August 1st.
